Around Lake Constance

This year, I finally wanted to be able to “check off” Liechtenstein. But I also wanted the chance to do a little cycling. That’s why Konstanz on Lake Constance seemed like the ideal starting point.

But first, the trip there: At 4:44 a.m., an ICE departs from Oldenburg bound for Karlsruhe. There, you transfer to the Black Forest Railway, and after a total of about 10 hours, you arrive in Konstanz. The part of the train route through the Black Forest and later along Lake Constance is especially worth seeing.

Konstanz is a very lively city and offers numerous recreational activities. It also connects directly to the Swiss city of Kreuzlingen—in many places, you don’t even notice the border crossing.

With a road bike rented locally, I cycled all the way around Lake Constance in two and a half days, passing through three different countries. The bike paths are very well developed and clearly marked. And finding places to eat along the way is no problem either.

I explored Liechtenstein on a day trip. First by train to Buchs, then an hour’s walk to Vaduz. The Principality lies on the Alpine Rhine and offers starting points for cycling or hiking tours.
On the way back to Konstanz, we made a quick stop in St. Gallen.
